June 17th, 2004 Racing

Thursday June 17th

This evening was perfect weather wise and the racing was hot. Mark qualified 5th fastest with a lap of 19.736 which put him in the dash on the outside of row 1. At the drop of the green Mark made a charge for the lead over Baldry and started to pull away before Baldry closed up. Mark was able to hang on to the lead to take the dash win. In winners circle Mark mentioned that they found something with the chassis this week while working on the car in the shop. The new Lefthander Chassis has a few new things on it that teams are still figuring out. In the feature Mark lined up 6th and quickly moved up to the 3rd spot and was working on JJ Smith. JJ was leaving the bottom open through the corners, but Mark wasn't able to get a good bite coming out of the corners to make it stick. Terry Baldry closed up and passed Mark on the outside. A caution would come out which came Mark another chance at JJ, when the green flag flew Mark was able to pass JJ on the outside. Mark was closing up on Baldry and the leader, but wasn't able to make a pass. Rod Wheeler would pass Mark on the outside which moved Mark back to 5th place. When the checkered flag flew Mark came home in 5th place. Not a bad night at all a 5th in qualifying, a win in the dash and 5th in the feature. Mark in 2nd in points only 43 points back.
