June 21st, 2003 Racing

This evening was the Midwest Allstar Racing Series (MARS) event at Norway Speedway at the Dickinson County Fairgrouds in Norway, MI. 24 cars showed up for the event which meant everyone made the feature. Mark turned a lap that was 3rd fastest this evening which put him in the 2nd row of the 3rd heat (fast heat). Mark was able to get up to second place, but the laps ran down and time ran out. In the feature Mark started toward the front of the feature, after the field spread out Mark made passes on the inside and the outside. Mark was up to 2nd place following leader Jeff Storm until a caution came out and tightened up the field. A hard charging Jamie Iverson was working his way up, while Jeff Van Oudenhoven was all over Mark's bumper. Since this was a 100 lap feature instead of racing hard with Jeff Van Oudenhoven, Mark gave him the outside lane and let him go by. Jamie Iverson also would make the move on Mark to the ouside. Jeff Storm was bumped to the outside which allowed Iverson, Van Oudenhoven and Mark by. Mark was riding in the 3rd place and keeping an eye on the leaders as there was some bumping going on. As the checkers flew Mark came across the line in 3rd place. The next race is at WIR on Thursday and possibly the Milwaukee Mile.
