July 27th Racing

Friday July 27th

After having a great run Thursday at WIR it was time to head up to Norway for the State Line Challenge. Mark won this race last year and it is quite an honor to be the State Line Champion. The Late Models are given 3 laps in qualifying, two of Mark's laps the clock picked up, but the clock didn't pick up his third lap. Mark would have most likely been fast qualifier, he could have taken all his laps over, but Mark chose not to. Mark would start in the back row of the 8 car fast dash, he would muscle his way towards the front. At the checkered flag Mark would finish in 3rd place in the dash. Feature line up had Mark dead last, but the feature was 101 laps so that was no problem. At the green flag Mark was moving through the field at a quick rate. By lap 15 Mark was up into the top 5 and advancing! Mark moved into 3rd place around the outside and challenge for second place. Mark got around the 2nd place car and put himself in 2nd place, he was all over the bumper of Mike Schei. Mark would try him high and try him low, but couldn't find a way to get by. A caution would come out and at the restart Mark was challenged on the outside. Terry Baldry would take over second place, after a couple laps the first 2 cars made contact and were both sent to the back. That would put Mark in the lead, after building up a decent size lead it would be brought back because of a false start. Again Mark would pull away from the field and keep the lead as another caution would come out with 3 to go. At the green Jamie Iverson was all over Mark's bumper cover and would stay there until the green flag. MARK WON THE STATE LINE CHALLENGE!! Mark is now Back to Back Stateline Champion.
