July 27th Racing

July 27th, 2000 - For the second week in row it looked like it was going to be a rainout. During practice it rained enough to wet the track, but the officials went to work and dried the track off. After a couple scrub sessions it was time for qualifying. Mark turned a lap of 19.729 which was 6th fastest overall. That means Mark is to run the dash! Mark started on the pole for the dash and at the start was running side by side with Rod Wheeler. Three cars would go by on the outside. At the checkers Mark finish in 4th place. The feature line up had Mark in 8th place (outside of row 4). Mark would get caught behind a slow car and wait for an opening on the inside. Mark moved to the inside and was moving up in the feature. Mark would get passed by 3 cars and would drop to 7th place. Mark rode in 7th place for the rest of the race and take it home in 7th place.
