May
4th Racing
![]()
May 4th, 2000 - The opener for the Thursday Night Thunder didn't go as planned for many drivers. The car was running pretty well during practice. It came time to qualify and after Mark took his two laps he turned a time of 19.931. That seemed pretty good but after many cars qualified under 20 seconds Mark ended up 13th fastest. The time wasn't fast enough for the dash, which put Mark in the 4th heat. The first two cars pulled away and Mark was able to catch them and stick with them but would settle for 3rd. When the featured lined up Mark was on the pole. Once the green flag flew Mark got the jump but the others were hanging right with him. After a couple laps in there was a wreck which slowed the race. The race began to be a caution race. There wasn't a long period of racing until 5 laps were in then the feature ran for a while as there was yet another caution. The car began to slide back in the pack. While Mark was racing another driver heading for turn 4 contact was made and Mark was done for the night. Basically the front body panels were gone. The car will be back togethor and ready for Sunday afternoon! See you there!!
