June 19th Racing

June 19th, 1999 - Mark was one of the later ones to take to the track for qualifying. About 5 cars before Mark went out Bobby McDonald blew an oil line which made it slippery between turn 3 and 4. Mark's first lap was a 20.264, the second lap didn't trip the clock. Mark would get to take 2 more laps. The first lap was the exact same as the first lap on the first time. The second lap was slower yet. Which would mean Mark would have to try to make it out of one of the last chance races. Mark would quickly make his way through the field. He was looking to take over 2nd spot but would settle for 3rd place. He was then able to transfer to the feature races. Mark started towards the back of the pack which would be a good thing because there was a big wreck near him. He began to really pick through the field as a stead pace. It took time to get pass some drivers who weren't picking a lane. Mark would go on to finish 8th in the first 50 lapper. Mark would start 5th in the second 50 lapper. He was picking cars off at a pretty steady pace and was up to 2nd place. He tryed everything to get around Ron Breese Jr. but couldn't get around him. The would be a caution which would bring everyone back in line. Mark would go back to work on Ron Breese since Lowell Bennett and Rod Wheeler were on there way to the front. Lowell would eventually get pass Mark and make his way his way around Ron Breese Jr. for the lead. Mark would stay with Lowell but wouldn't get around him. After the race the crew found that the front right tire had a hole in it and dropped from 32 to 15 pounds of air. If Mark didn't have to run the last chance race he would have most likely had something for Lowell. Over all it was a great run by Mark! Mark is now 2nd in points right behind Lowell Bennett for the Red, White, and Blue State Championship.
